Three Ways to Make Your House Move Less Stressful

Moving house is an exciting time, but as your move out date approaches it can all feel a little overwhelming. Whether you’re a family of five, or a single occupant the thought of packing your belongings often fills people with dread. But with a few handy tricks you can make your move a whole lot smoother.

 

Organise your boxes:

When packing your belongings it can be easy to rush ahead to get the job done. But what happens when you arrive at your new home with no idea where anything is? It seems obvious, but labelling your boxes is a simple way to relieve a lot of the stress from packing and unpacking. This can be done by writing the designated room on each box, or using a colour coding system for different areas of your home. For the super organised, you can take this one step further by numbering these boxes in terms of importance, this way you can access your essentials with ease. By ensuring you are organised from the beginning, you’ll set yourself up for an overall easier move.

 

Create a survival kit:

Nothing’s worse than finishing your packing and realising you accidentally crammed your toothbrush and charger away into an unknown box. When sorting your items make sure you set aside those you’ll need the next day by packing an overnight bag, this will avoid hassle and reduce stress. Depending on the time of day you move your essentials may include toiletries, cleaning materials or bedding. This routine can be especially useful if you’re moving with children. The thought of a new home can be daunting for kids, so why not pack their favourite toy and pyjamas so they can settle in a little quicker and have some familiarity around them.

 

Move on a less busy day:

Naturally, most people prefer to move on a weekend so they can fit this around their work schedule. However this means that moving companies are usually busier on weekends, resulting in a possible increase in fees or less flexible time slots. To combat this, make arrangements with removal companies at least six weeks in advance or try to find the cheapest moving day if you can. If you’re struggling for childcare this can also be helpful as swapping your weekend date for mid week, the kids will be at school leaving you to get on with the busy move with less worry.
