Stacking boxes

Packing is one of the most time-consuming aspects of moving home. Cramming years worth of memories into boxes is bound to be a challenge, and sometimes, it’s necessary to say goodbye to some of your most valued possessions in order to lighten your load for the big day.

When it comes to moving home, we all want the process to be as stress-free as possible. So, in order to make your relocation that little bit simpler, we’ve listed just a few packing tips to help you get a good head start.

Start early

This may seem like an obvious thing to point out, but getting started on your packing early is bound to make the entire process less tough. Not only is a last minute job likely to be less efficient, but you may also find that the stress of the situation causes you to overlook important details, making your move more chaotic than it needs to be. With this in mind, it’s important to give yourself enough time to pack properly and try to remain level-headed so that nothing gets forgotten.

Sort out a system

Packing up an entire home is a big task for anyone to take on and depending on how your mind works, it may be beneficial to have some sort of system in place to make things more methodical. For example, starting with rooms that are used less often is logical to ensure you’re not packing away things you may need in the near future. Labelling boxes is also a great way to keep your items organised in transit and will make things much easier to find when you arrive at your new abode. Implement a system that works for you and stick with it for a simple and stress-free move.

Declutter

As previously mentioned, it may be an idea to get rid of a few things prior to moving so that your luggage is just that little bit lighter. Whilst it may be difficult to part with certain items, try to see moving as an opportunity to do a big clear out and declutter. Not only will this make moving easier, but it may also have a therapeutic effect and once you’ve disposed of some old junk, you can treat yourself to some accessories to kit out your brand new property.

Pack a bag of essentials

That moment when you arrive at your new property can be simultaneously exciting and overwhelming. Although you’ll be all moved into your brand new home, you’ll likely be surrounded by a sea of boxes and unpacking fully can take days or even weeks. So, to ensure you’ve got everything you need in the meantime, packing a bag of essentials prior to moving is advisable. From work clothing and toiletries to crockery and some staple snacks, there are certain things you can’t live without, so it’s important to have these items handy whilst you’re finding your feet in your new place.
